The short version

itslearning was founded in Bergen in 1999 and is owned by the Finnish education group Sanoma. It is built for compulsory and upper secondary schools, and it connects to the Swedish school system through Skolfederation and SS 12000.

Origin is built for learners who are not in compulsory school: adults at Komvux and SFI, students on YH programmes, professionals in continuing education, and the clients of training providers.

Adult and vocational learners

Adult learners come and go on their own schedule, and YH students can spend weeks at a workplace between a lesson and the day they need it. Origin is built for that: short lessons, easy-read versions and voice-over approved by the teacher, and native apps for iOS and Android.

Remembering after the course

Munin sends a two-minute review after each module, timed to when knowledge starts to fade, until each skill graduates. For vocabulary at SFI or theory that has to survive a work placement, that is where learning holds or slips.

itslearning does not offer spaced repetition, and it is not on its published roadmap.

Building courses

Origin AI drafts the course, lessons and quizzes from the PDF or Word file you teach from, and a teacher approves every lesson.

itslearning’s AI Toolkit drafts tests, assignments and worksheets. It has been in an extended pilot since April 2026 and will be an optional paid add-on, running on Azure OpenAI hosted in Sweden.

Data and security

Origin’s database is hosted in the EU, in Paris, and we sign a data processing agreement with every customer. Work toward ISO 27001 and SOC 2 has started, but neither is held today.

itslearning processes customer data only in the EU/EEA and is ISO 27001 certified. If a certificate is a requirement in your procurement today, that counts in itslearning’s favour.

When itslearning is the better choice

  • You are a municipality choosing a platform for compulsory or upper secondary schools.
  • You need Skolfederation and SS 12000 integration with the school’s systems.
  • Your procurement requires an ISO 27001 certificate today.

When Origin is the better choice

  • You run Komvux, SFI or YH programmes, or you are a training provider.
  • You want reviews after each module built in.
  • You want whole courses drafted from your own PDF and Word files.
  • You want a portal under your own brand, with one per programme or client.

Moving to Origin

SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and xAPI packages run in Origin, and the PDF and Word files you teach from become new courses with Origin AI. In the demo, bring a list of what you have and we will go through what moves.
