The comparison in full
The short version
Mitti, formerly SafetyCulture, is an operations platform for frontline teams: inspections, checklists and tasks, with training as one part of it. Its training, which began as EdApp, gives you short mobile lessons, a library of more than 1,000 free courses, and AI that turns a document into a course.
Origin is a training platform only. You build courses from the manuals and routines you already have, run them under your own name and web address, and Munin keeps checking what your staff remember. The database is hosted in the EU, in Paris.
Remembering after the course
Both have spaced repetition, and they work differently. In Mitti, Spaced Repetition is on the Premium and Enterprise plans: an admin picks quiz questions from the courses they choose, up to 15 per quiz, and a question comes back after 1, 3, 10, 30 and 60 days until it has been answered correctly five times in a row.
In Origin, Munin works after every module, for every skill, without anyone picking questions. Each review is timed to when that person is about to forget, and a skill graduates once it sticks. It is part of every Origin setup.
Building courses
Mitti turns a prompt, or an uploaded PDF, Word or PowerPoint file, into a draft course that you edit and publish on the web. It also has more than 1,000 ready-made courses you can edit, on every plan.
Origin AI drafts the modules, lessons and quizzes from a PDF or Word file of up to 300 pages. Every AI block is marked for review, and nothing reaches your staff until a trainer approves it. Origin has no ready-made course library.
Price, hosting and your data
Mitti’s training is part of its plans, together with inspections and checklists: free for up to 10 seats, Premium at $24 per seat a month billed yearly, or $29 monthly, and Enterprise on request. A location-based price, per site with unlimited users, is also offered.
Mitti stores data on Amazon Web Services in the US, the EU (Ireland) or Australia. Organisations created since March 2022 are generally placed in the region nearest their IP address; a new organisation can ask for a specific region before it signs up. User identity and analytics data always stay in the US. Origin’s database is hosted in the EU, in Paris, and we sign a data processing agreement with every customer. Origin is priced per organisation, with a quote after a 15-minute demo.
Your brand and your sites
Mitti lets you theme courses with your colours, fonts and logo, and add your organisation’s logo on Premium. We did not find a custom web address, a way to remove Mitti’s branding, or separate portals per client in its help centre.
Origin puts your name, logo, colours and web address on the portal, and each site or brand can have its own portal, all run from one workspace.
Standards and the courses you already have
Mitti imports SCORM packages as lesson slides on Premium and Enterprise; scores inside a SCORM package are not counted in the course score, and SCORM lessons cannot be downloaded for offline use. We did not find xAPI. Origin runs SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and xAPI packages as they are.
When Mitti Training is the better choice
- You already use Mitti for inspections and checklists, and want training in the same app.
- You have 10 people or fewer and want to start free.
- You want ready-made courses now: more than 1,000 come free.
- Your staff learn where there is no signal: lessons can be downloaded for offline use.
- You want courses machine-translated into many languages.
- You want in-person skill assessments, leaderboards and analytics in Power BI or Tableau in the same tool.
When Origin is the better choice
- You want reviews after every module, for every skill, without picking questions by hand.
- You want your own name and web address on the portal, per site or brand.
- You want all your data, including user identity and analytics, hosted in the EU.
- You use SCORM 2004 or xAPI courses and want their scores to count.
- You want to work in Swedish, with a team in Stockholm.
Moving from Mitti to Origin
SCORM packages you use today run in Origin, and the manuals and documents behind your courses, in PDF or Word, become new courses with Origin AI. In the demo, bring a list of what you have and we will go through what moves and what does not.
